Know What You Ask Of God

I started my company a few years ago. It was a service company. For my company to grow I needed to have clients and naturally I asked God for clients. Generally that is what most people do when they start their own company. They want clients. I also wanted clients, clients and more clients!

I prayed in my office and at home for clients. “God send me clients, send them to me, bring them to my business, bring me clients to support my business.” I would often pray. I was before God in prayer and reminded Him frequently that He had promised to make me the head and not the tail, (Deuteronomy 28:13) and also to answer me when I call upon Him. Psalm 4:1

God answered me. I found favour before Him and He gave me exactly what I asked for. He gave me clients. Clients came from all directions but…. a big but… they were not the type of clients I wanted. I really didn’t like nor want these type of clients. They did not contribute to the growth of my business. Rather they drained my resources and took my time.

I went on my knees again and asked God,

“How come I am getting these types of clients, these are not the clients that I want. Lord I am not making money.” I then proceeded to tell Him exactly the type of clients I wanted. The Lord answered and said, “You asked for clients, I gave you clients.” He then directed me to James 4:2 and gave me a deeper understanding of the verse. If you do not ask, you will not receive. I then proceeded to ask God for the specific type of clients I wanted.

In the back of my mind I still had questions, so I asked God, “what if I do not know exactly what I want?” He again directed me to His word: Romans 8:26 and told me that the Holy Spirit will intercede on my behalf if I do not know what to ask. This made me realize that the combination of being specific in my requests to God and having the spirit intercede on my behalf “with groanings that cannot be uttered” will bring me my heart’s desire. This is known as speaking in tongues. When you speak in tongues, the Holy Spirit speaks to God directly on your behalf. 1 Corinthians 14:2

It is gratifying to know that God will give us what we ask for. Therefore, it is imperative that we are specific in our requests to God. He will give us our hearts desire once our desires are aligned with His will. Therefore by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6-8.

If you are asking for a spouse, be specific. Ask for a God-fearing spouse and that is what the Lord will give to you. He will give you a man that will love you just as Christ loves the church. He will give you a woman who will submit to you according to the word of God.  (Ephesians 5:22, 25)

If you seek a child, ask for a God-fearing child. A brilliant child. A child that will take care of you in your old age. A child that will honour you according to the word of God. (Exodus 20:12)

If you want a job, don’t just say, “God anything please, just give me a job.” Ask for a specific job. He will give that to you. He will create a job for you and provide the salary that you need to be paid. (Proverbs 18:16)

Keep asking, knocking and seeking. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8).

A Walk with God Reflection

What are you in need of? What do the scriptures say about what you are requesting? Take a moment to write down a specific prayer request, and attach that request to a verse from the bible. Pray to God and believe that you have already received what you are requesting. Then wait in expectation of God’s deliverance.  Be encouraged and appropriate Matthew 7:7-8 for yourself today wherever you stand and God will bless you abundantly.
